New Features in Version 6.1/6.0

New Agent Architecture

• (Exclusive) OPTIONAL client agent enables you to manage locked down and isolated machines. You can manage any combination of machines with a mix of agents and non-agents simultaneously.
• (Exclusive) Packaged Updates - supports disconnected networks by creating a portable install from a connected management console.
• New and improved Export Table - combines the machines report with conformance information. The export table is designed for queries and trend analysis.
• Orphan Leaf Agent improvements - if a Master Agent is moved or its server renamed, the settings for the Leaf Agents and other important settings can be saved and transferred.
• (Exclusive) HP OpenView Operations (OVO) for Windows Smart Plug-in (SPI) - This feature enables HP OVO to control the architecture components of UpdateEXPERT. Download a copy from your UpdateEXPERT Management Console.  Read more about this feature.

Validation Enhancements

• Custom Fixes feature now supports user-defined validation criteria (file and registry-based). You can be certain that your customized fixes are installed and valid.
• UpdateEXPERT has a new feature for file validation of a patch. In addition to testing for file size and checksum, we uniquely offer the ability to manage file versions within patches. For example, if a patch overwrites a file from an older patch, UpdateEXPERT knows that the newer file is okay or valid. What we do that is unique is test that these validation criteria are accurate against our database. We are not relying on public sources.

Security

• All components (including agents) are secured using encrypted communications.
• The database is checked for validity by Cyclic Redundancy Code (CRC) to ensure that everything is proper.
• Alternate Credentials may be specified for accessing remote machines. This means that an Administrator does not have to be logged in as the Administrator to query machines or deploy patches using UpdateEXPERT. The Administrator can delegate access rights to individuals with greater control and in finer detail.

Network Support

• Active Directory is fully supported. You can use the Organizational Units (OUs) as designated by the Administrator to manage your machines more efficiently.
• Profiles make it simple to identify the machines you want to manage by OS, Service Pack level or patch level.
• User Defined Groups help you to arrange combinations of machines any way you like.

UI Features

• Research View uses a tree view. This makes the search for a patch a lot easier. With thousands of available patches from UpdateEXPERT, this organization of patches will speed up the research process.
• Required Updates feature is now integrated into the deployment and research views.
• Support for multiple Management Consoles. Now you can share (be hooked into) a single Master Agent among any number of Management Consoles. This means that distributed management and reporting are possible.
• Logging has been enhanced to track more events. Select what you want tracked.

Who is Eligible for the Upgrade?

For UpdateEXPERT 5.x Customers

• If you have version 5.x and have a current subscription, you can upgrade to version 6.1 at no charge. Go to your UpdateEXPERT Management Console and follow the instructions from the Home Page of the UpdateEXPERT User Web.

• Please note that you cannot install 6.x on the same machine as 5.x until you uninstall 5.x. Therefore, no settings and managed machine lists will be migrated to 6.x. The Management Console offers more instructions.

• If your subscription has lapsed, you can be reinstated and thus be eligible for the free upgrade. Contact sales@flexnet.com for questions about your renewing your subscription.

For UpdateEXPERT 6.0 Customers

• If you have version 6.0 and have a current subscription, you can upgrade to version 6.1 at no charge. Go to your UpdateEXPERT Management Console and follow the instructions from the Home Page of the UpdateEXPERT User Web.

• This version will migrate your settings from 6.0.
