Product Requirements:
TOPPER Server PC
This is the PC which will
be conducting tests and performing any management functions.
It will be the PC which
can: send out e-mail probes and receive back
responses, ping other
devices on an IP network, monitor performance indicators,
monitor services and
restart, send out notifications regarding its alarm conditions,
automatically publish
status reports over the network, and many other functions.
The TOPPER Server PC is a
PC running the any of the following operating systems:
The operating system
can be either Workstation or
Server. It will usually store
the
results of its testing
locally on its hard drive. If there are to be any TOPPER Client
PCs, they will need to
access this data. The number of TOPPER Client PCs will usually
indicate whether NT
Workstation or Server should be the appropriate operating
system. The TOPPER Server
PC does not need to be a dedicated PC but in most
instances it is.
TOPPER Client PCs
Client PCs may either be
running any of the following operating systems:

Requirements
The two types of PC
workstations that run TOPPER are the:
TOPPER Server PC
This is a PC that performs
the actual testing. It should Pentium or higher processor
with 128 megabytes of
memory. It should be running any of the operating systems
mentioned in the previous
section regarding TOPPER Server PC’s (either Workstation
or Server). The PC will
need to have appropriate LAN adapter for network connectivity.
TOPPER Client PCs
These are PC workstations
that will view and support the TOPPER Server PC. They
should each have a pentium
or higher processor with 128 megabytes of memory.
They can run any of the
operating systems mentioned in the previous section regarding
TOPPER Client PC’s. They
will also need an appropriate LAN adapter for network
connectivity.
