Mailscape is an award-winning total systems management tool that combines Exchange monitoring, reporting, and administrative features in one solution. The most notable enhancement in this update is a new feature that allows administrators to verify, monitor and report on the hottest new Exchange 2010 feature —Database Availability Groups

The Mailscape Feature Pack 1 update also includes a new report that allows administrators to easily track storage growth over time and provides the ability to view the information from all levels in Exchange including organization, server, storage group and databases. Other updates include new OWA and ActiveSync auto functionality tests for Exchange 2003. Finally, some new public folder reports were introduced for Exchange 2007 and 2010 that enable administrators to address the challenge of cleaning up their public folder implementations. These reports make it easy to identify public folders that have not been used so the disk space can be reclaimed.

For more information on MailScape, please click on the url below:

http://www.flexnet.com/Exchange_Management_and_Monitoring/Exchange_Management.htm

Discovery Attender V3.6 is Now Available

Discovery Attender version 3.6 is ready for download. The former is time-consuming, error-prone, and tedious; the latter poses multiple security risks and compliance issues.

Ensim Unify is far and away the leader in this category, going well beyond Active Directory to encompass all the components of your Unified Communications infrastructure: Exchange 2003/2007/2010, Office Communications Server (OCS), BlackBerry Enterprise Server, and cloud-bases services such as Google Apps. Unify is a modular solution that enables IT to achieve three major objectives:

-Enhance security by removing manual processes
-Reduce compliance risk by enforcing corporate policy
-Improve IT efficiency by decreasing workload
Ensim has just extended Unify's capabilities to SharePoint and the new Group Chat features of OCS.

Read all about SharePoint Manager here and OCS Group Chat Manager here.

TVS Extends its Lead in Archive Migration Software

A variety of business and technical concerns (mergers and acquisitions, under-performing archive systems, the releases of EV8 from Symantec and SourceOne from EMC, etc) drove very strong demand for archive migrations in 2009. That growth is continuing to accelerate in 2010. TVS is staying ahead of the wave with the recent release of TransVault v5.

TransVault v5 adds new connectors for EMC SourceOne and Microsoft Exchange 2010. The latter connector is in direct response to demand from unregulated companies planning to eliminate their archive system and restore their data to Exchange 2010, either on-premise or in the cloud (Microsoft BPOS).

V5 also includes a new and extensible reporting platform that enables advanced progress tracking and chain-of-custody auditing so customers can be absolutely certain nothing is missed or altered during the archive migration process - a vital consideration for compliance and data discovery requirements.

For more information on Transvault, please click on the url below:
http://www.flexnet.com/Email_Archive_Migration/Email_Archive_Migration.htm

Or please email us to learn more about Transvault. The podcast, hosted by Dana Gardner of E-Commerce Times, discusses the changing approach to capacity planning that has begun to develop as a result of cloud computing’s rising star.

Joining Dana in the conversation is Neil Ashizawa, manager of HP's Software as a Service (SaaS) Products and Cloud Solutions. Dana and Neil discuss the fact that, as a result of the ability of cloud computing environments to be elastic – that is, to expand and contract themselves based on need and demand – the way that we, as IT professionals, plan those environments needs to change.

Neil put it the following way:

Old-fashioned capacity planning focuses on the peak usage of the application, and it had to, because when you were deploying applications in-house, you had to take into consideration that peak usage case. At the end of the day, you had to be provisioned correctly with respect to compute power. Oftentimes with long procurement cycles, you'd have to plan for that.

In the cloud, because you have this idea of elasticity, where you can scale up your compute resources when you need them, and scale them back down, obviously that adds another dimension to old-school capacity planning.

This obviously has some wide-reaching implications on virtually every aspect of IT infrastructure planning (including how we plan for demand on our Exchange servers, web servers, SQL servers and so on.) And needless to say, our adoption of virtualization technology has a substantial impact as well.

For more information on all of the AppAssure Software Products, Please click on the url below:

http://www.flexnet.com/Appassure/Appimage.htm

TVS now supports – over 200 email archive migration combinations!

TransVault Software (TVS) has today announced version 4.7 of its email archive migration solution bringing the number of supported migration combinations to over 200. This new release adds large-scale, audited restorations into Microsoft Exchange servers; movement of data to and from cloud-based archives, and extraction out of legacy iLumin archives. The new Microsoft Exchange Connector enables all supported archive formats to send data directly into Exchange servers. As well as migrating the contents of 3rd party archives into the new Exchange 2010 archiving facility, organizations can use this connector to reconstruct vital email evidence archived from journal mailboxes such as BCC’d emails and emails sent to distribution lists. It also gives the opportunity to re-architect data across a new Exchange server configuration.

An EML File Extraction Connector is designed to help customers move archives from a cloud-based service back to an on-premise archive or simply back into Exchange and an iLumin Assentor Extraction Connector will be used to help consolidate some of the oldest email archives in corporate America.

With full integration into the TransVault pluggable framework these new connectors benefit from the full auditing, automation and process control features proven during many migration projects.

According to Andy Clare, EMEA and AsiaPac region Business Development Manager at TVS, “The variety of migration scenarios our product can now address is growing in giant leaps with each new release. Microsoft’s #1 initiative in 2010 is to raise awareness of the benefits – and to increase adoption – of OCS.

OCS delivers significant improvements to productivity and collaboration, but it can be complicated to implement and difficult to manage day-to-day. Most mid- to large-sized organizations will find it virtually impossible to handle ongoing provisioning requests manually through the native interface.

Ensim Corp has published a new white paper that describes five key OCS provisioning challenges and how Unify’s OCS Manager addresses each challenge. If you use OCS today, or if you are planning to implement OCS, you need to read this white paper.

Click here to request a copy: http://www.flexnet.com/whitepaperDL/OCS_Deployment_White_Paper.htm

Mailscape V4.5 Delivers Customizable Reporting and Proactive Monitoring

Mailscape is a complete systems management tool that combines all the key elements for Exchange monitoring, reporting and administration into a single, affordable solution. The highly-anticipated launch of V4.5 delivers customizable reporting that gives administrators complete flexibility in not only how they create reports, but also how they disseminate the information. Traditional reporting products only allow you to email a report, resulting in static data, but with Mailscape V4.5‟s Personalized Dashboards, each key role in your organization can have access to only the reports they need to see via our one-look dashboard that automatically self-generates.

In addition, our proactive monitoring capabilities go beyond traditional tools that only monitor basic components, such as service availability and uptime. Mailscape V4.5 performs regular health checks of all the vital components in your messaging system, such as mail flow, OWA, and BlackBerry, to ensure they are functioning optimally.

"One of the many challenges faced by the reporting industry is developing software that is customizable enough to meet the unique needs every organization has," remarks Curtis Blake, ENow‟s Chief Technology Officer. "The beauty of our solution is that it gives you that customization, yet remains simple enough so that everyone can use it without training."

"The graphical display of data makes it easy enough that the Help Desk can quickly diagnose the cause of a problem and take a more active role in monitoring the system. Your security concerns necessitate a strong password policy, but it’s an unfortunate fact that strong passwords are more difficult to remember and therefore trigger more calls to your help desk.

Ensim Unify’s Password Manager offers fool-proof self-service capabilities that enable you to securely delegate password resets down to your end users. This frees your help desk to focus on more important tasks and eliminates lost productivity as your end users will no longer have to wait for resets from the help desk.

SC Magazine recently reviewed Unify’s Password Manager and awarded it top marks over a host of competitors. Read the full review at the link below and then contact us for a demo or evaluation copy. A family-owned business headquartered in Philadelphia, PA, Bodek and Rhodes offers an impressive 37 different brands of apparel to their network of screen printers, embroiderers, promotional products and uniform companies.

Traditionally, Bodek and Rhodes’s management used inbound and outbound call volume as a means of measuring the performance and productivity of their sales teams. Recently, several members of their sales teams approached Sam Gerber, the Vice President of Business Development, with the fact that they spend a majority of their time and effort communicating with clients via email. Armed with this newly-found knowledge, the network administrator for Bodek and Rhodes, Barbara Campbell, decided to search for a solution that would capture key email statistics and monitor the sales teams’ performance and productivity.

Most of the products the IT team initially came across did not match the company’s needs—they were either too complex or too expensive. When Bodek and Rhodes found Mailscape® they knew it was a perfect match. Their IT team utilized Mailscape®’s detailed message traffic reports to optimize their sales teams’ performance.

Mailscape® is a unique and innovative systems management tool that combines all the key elements of Exchange monitoring, administration and reporting in a single solution. Mailscape®’s sleek dashboard now provides Bodek and Rhodes with vital information about each server’s current state and growth rate to facilitate proactive Exchange management.

Right away, Mailscape® provided management with customizable reports which could generate email statistics showing monthly, weekly, or daily data for an individual, a department or the entire company.
The VP of Business Development was impressed with Mailscape®’s simplicity. Gerber states: “What’s nice about this tool is that it’s simple enough that management can use it just as easily as the IT team can. It also helped disseminate information across all levels of our company. With MaiIscape®, our sales team is now much more efficient and productive with their email communications.”

Mailscape’s sleek one-look dashboard enables you to monitor your Exchange environment’s vital components with a quick glance at a single screen.

At the same time, Mailscape’s advanced email reporting provides both the real-time data and historical trending you need to optimize system performance and to plan for the future.
If you are considering an email management or monitoring solution, please contact us to learn more about MailScape.

http://www.flexnet.com/Exchange_Management_and_Monitoring/Exchange_Management.htm

Business Drivers Behind Email Archive Migrations

In an economy in which IT spending is generally constrained, we are seeing strong growth in demand for email archive migrations.

The drivers behind email archive migrations vary—mergers and acquisitions; poor vendor support; EMC’s announcement of EmailXtender’s end of life; increased interest in hosted archiving services—but everyone faced with the prospect of migrating large quantities of data from one archive system to another (either on premise or in the cloud) has the same concerns about how the migration can be completed quickly, securely, and without a massive expenditure on professional services.

TransVault Software is the world leader in high-volume email archive migration solutions. TransVault can migrate in days what would take months in a manual professional services engagement.

With the release of TransVault v4.4, TVS now offers additional capabilities to further automate and accelerate email archive migrations....and thereby further reduce the cost and complexity of moving your legacy data to a new archive system.

If you are considering an email archive migration, please contact us to learn more about TransVault.

http://www.flexnet.com/TransVault/Email_Archive_Migration.htm

Mail Attender for Exchange wins coveted “Best Of TECH-ED 2009” award in the Messaging Category

Sherpa Software Mail Attender for Exchange is the winner of the "Best of TECH-ED 2009" Messaging Award Category.

Mail Attender is designed to automate the scheduling of common policies in multiple information stores. Chief amongst these is a new rule type: Transfer Rules. Transfer Rules allow you to move data from an e-mail store being managed by Mail Attender to another managed e-mail store regardless of where they are in relation to each other.

For example, to move e-mail from one PST file on one server to a PST file on another server, both files would have to be connected directly. The new Transfer Rules allow someone to first, selectively identify the messages to be transferred; and second, export and transmit these messages, through one or more MAE installations; and import the messages into the destination e-mail store.

How does it work? Transfer destination targets are assigned for each e-mail store needing to be processed with these new Transfer Rules. There will be a new tab on the properties pages for each e-mail store to view and edit the list of destination targets.

There can be as many destination Targets as needed, but each must have a unique name. In the example above, the file FriarTuck.pst has a Target called "Buddy" of RobinHood.pst. Targets can also be assigned in mass by importing a list, similar to the "Owners Template" feature.

Once the destination Targets are configured, the Transfer Rule can be created. The main visual difference between a Transfer Rule and a Standard Rule is the "Destination" tab instead of an "Actions" tab.

On this tab, the destination Target is chosen by name. For each e-mail store the Transfer Rule processes, the corresponding e-mail store is targeted. When a message qualifies (depending on the condition added), the message is exported and transmitted, or "Transferred" from that e-mail store to the corresponding Target e-mail store.

Other options include defining the Target folder of the destination and what to do with the original message once the transfer is successful.

This new feature promises to provide yet another tool in your arsenal for managing e-mail content. Now your options are no longer limited to exporting, deleting, forwarding and so on, but will now include the ability to move specific messages from one e-mail store to another by simply configuring and running MAE Transfer Rules.

For more information, visit our web site at:

http://www.flexnet.com/Mail_Attender/Mail_Attender.htm

Email Archive Migration Preplanning Checklist

An email archive migration is a complex project that requires careful planning. Regardless of the reason for your need to migrate archived data (more on that below), you must consider issues such as chain of custody, data discovery requirements, data conversion time, and—of course—total migration project cost.

How you address each of those issues depends on factors unique to your environment: your source archive system, your target archive system, your volume of archived data, whether you opt for a manual services-based archive migration or an automated software-driven migration, and much more.

We’ve prepared an email archive migration project checklist to help you plan your archive migration and thereby avoid unforeseen pitfalls. Download a copy here if any of these scenarios sound familiar:

-Business Change. Is your company going through a merger, acquisition or divestiture, or do staff or entire departments often re-locate between locations? Archived records will almost certainly need to be amalgamated, extracted or moved to reflect organizational change.
-Archive Architecture Upgrade. Archive vendors often have to re-architect their product to improve performance and scalability. This may mean you need to migrate data stored in a legacy archive format to take full advantage of a new archive architecture.
-Improve scalability. Are retrievals or archive runs taking too long? Are you facing major infrastructure upgrades to accommodate growth? If your original archive is not ‘up to the job’ of servicing your needs, a move to better/newer technology will save money and improve service levels.
-Reduce Cost of Ownership. Is your IT team spending too much time and expense ‘nursing’ your existing archive: restarting stopped processes, responding to help desk calls, etc? To quote a customer that migrated from a legacy archive platform: “with [the previous solution] we went from being full time Exchange administrators to full time archive administrators”.
-E-Discovery Capability. Is your archive platform failing to provide adequate discovery and litigation support services? Secure, audited and rapid transitioning of your archived data to an alternative platform or specialist service with the additional discovery capabilities your organization needs could save your company millions.
-Protection Against Obsolescence. Has your incumbent archive supplier fallen by the wayside? Will your original storage choice last to meet evolving retention needs? Although you chose the best technoloy at the time, if were an early adopter these are likely scenarios and you need to ensure your data does not get locked in.
-Change in IT Model. Does your organization want to outsource its IT services or use cloud computing? If so, your users will want to maintain access to legacy data via the new service.
-Better Support. Has the quality of service offered by your original vendor diminished? An unsupported version or unresponsive supplier could threaten the ongoing accessibility of your data.

For more information, visit our web site at:

http://www.flexnet.com/whitepaperDL/email_archive_migration_preplanning_checklist.htm

Google Apps, Active Directory Management

If yours is one of the ever-growing number of organizations considering a cloud-based computing initiative, you need to look at Ensim Unify's Service Manager for Google Apps.

Unify makes it amazingly easy to capitalize on the cost savings of moving some (or all) of your users to the cloud. Unify's template-driven provisioning and role-based access control gives you the flexibility to manage both on-premise systems (such as Active Directory) and Google Apps in a single console. Data can be processed selectively—for example, by date range, by group, by user—to facilitate specific migration requirements. TransVault can also migrate/re-point stubs from legacy archives to their corresponding items in Enterprise Vault, and it can reformat mail if necessary—eg, from john.doe@acme.com to jdoe@newcorp.com.
