MailMeter File Archiver is a
software solution that runs on a Windows server and communicates
with MailMeter File Archiver agent software running on the
servers you want to manage. The agents analyze file usage and at
regularly scheduled intervals, notify the MailMeter File
Archiver server that it has files that meet the file archiving
policy rules you set, and then copies the files to its Archive
Volumes and replaces the file with a link to the file in the
archive.
File Archiver provides four
capabilities to help you save storage:
- Reporting -
View your files by server, by owner, by size,
by type, by name, etc. to pinpoint the usage and abuse of
your storage.
- Deleting -
Clean up your file servers and purge old and
unneeded files. From any report, just check the box next to
a file name and click Delete. Reclaim your storage in
minutes.
- Archiving -
Protect critical files by copying them to the
archive server. Move older versions of files to the archive.
- Stubbing -
Reclaim storage space without disrupting
users. Automatically remove older files from file servers
and replace them with an intelligent "stub" that invisibly
retrieves the original file from the archive. Smart Stubbing™
choices are:

stubs launch application files directly from the
archive;
- Dynamic™
stubs automatically restore files from the archive to
their original location when an application or user
accesses the file;

stubs present a user with a choice of the versions of
the file that can be restored from the archive.
Investigative Searches
More and more investigative searches require that
you produce any relevant files. MailMeter File
System Archiving software gives you the capability
to quickly respond to any requests and search for
specific files by name, type, date range, directory
location, and owner across hundreds of servers.
Protecting Files from Accidents
Critical files can be automatically archived and
not "stubbed" – providing a fast recovery solution.
Housekeeping tasks that are impossible to do
manually (delete old files that are no longer
needed) are handled automatically.
Simple policies can protect files from early
deletion or being overwritten with bad data. For
example, if you set a policy rule "When a file is
deleted, do not delete the copy from the archive for
30 days," you can easily recover a file that has
been deleted accidentally.
MailMeter File Archiver can maintain generations
of files. If you have applications that read in
files, update them, and write them back, you can set
a policy rule to "Keep a copy of the last ten
generations of a file in the archive" in case you
need to recover to a previous version.
