MaX Compression Client can be used on Intel-based PCs running any Windows version from Windows 95 to Windows XP. It can be used with Microsoft Outlook 98 or later.

The MaX Compression Server service runs on an Intel based Windows 2000 installation (Professional edition or Server edition) or NT Workstation or Server, which can be either:

  • The same server that the Exchange 5.5 or 2000 Server is running on, in which case it will take up around 10MB RAM.

  • A separate server connected via LAN to the Exchange Server, in which case it should be at least a P133, and will take up around 10MB RAM. The two systems should be connected by a fast LAN link, of at least 10 Mbits.

The Exchange 5.5 Server should be at least on Service Pack 3, and the NT system should be at least on Service Pack 5.

MaX Compression Admin runs on an Intel based 32-bit Windows system running at least a P133 or equivalent, that can communicate with the MaX Service and Exchange Server. It will take up around 6MB RAM. It should have Internet Explorer installed, version 4 or later, in order to be able to view the help file.

In addition, the Admin and Service components need:

  • Either Exchange Admin or Exchange System Manager to be installed on the same machine, in order to get the correct messaging environment.

  • A version of DCOM installed. This is part of the base installation of all versions of Windows 2000, Window NT 4.0 and later and Windows 95 OSR 2.5 and later (including Windows 98 and ME) and comes with installations of Internet Explorer 4.0 and later. It can be installed onto early versions of Windows 95 by installing Internet Explorer 4.0 or later, or running the program DCOM95.EXE, which is a Microsoft-supplied upgrade to Windows 95, and can be found on the C2C Systems CD or the Microsoft website.
